In 2002, Father Joseph Hilbert retired as Pastor at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church. His retirement was the culmination of his life as a priest in the Diocese of Harrisburg for over 62 years. While serving as the Pastor at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church from 1994 through 2002, he worked extensively with the underprivileged communities of Adams and Franklin counties. In 1998, Father Hilbert was recognized with the Peacemaker Award by the Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice. Just prior to his retirement, and in furtherance of his legacy of improving the lives of those around him, the Inaugural Saint Francis Xavier Golf Open, known as “The Father Hilbert Cup,” was held. The dream of this tournament was to raise financial resources in support of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School’s mission to provide Catholic education to our youth regardless of their financial circumstances.

This year, the tournament will be enjoying its 22nd year. Since it’s beginning, the tournament has provided financial assistance for the education of hundreds of children. Many of those who were in Saint Francis Grade School at the time of the inaugural tournament are now active and contributing members to our local community as educators, engineers, financial advisors, lawyers, and various other professions. Undoubtedly, their time at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School served as a springboard for their future success and ability to serve the community.
